What this category covers
The tools an MEP crew needs on site: wrenches and spanners, pliers and cutters, screwdrivers, hammers and striking tools, measuring and inspection instruments, cutting and filing hand tools, power drills and rotary tools, grinders and cutting power tools, power tool accessories, and specialised construction tools.
How to buy tools for a site rather than for a person
Buying tools for a project is a different exercise from buying one good tool. What matters is that every crew has a complete, consistent set, that consumables are stocked so work does not stop for a blade, and that the batteries and chargers across the site belong to one platform.
That last point is worth stating plainly: cordless tools from different manufacturers do not share batteries, and a site running three platforms has three sets of chargers, three sets of spare packs and no ability to move a battery from an idle tool to a working one. Standardising on one platform is usually worth more than the price difference on any individual tool.
Common applications
Mechanical and plumbing installation, electrical first and second fix, HVAC installation and commissioning, fire protection installation, general building work, facilities maintenance teams, and workshop and fabrication use.
What to settle before asking for a price
Corded or cordless, and which platform. If cordless, confirm the voltage platform and whether tools are needed as bare units or as kits with batteries and charger. Bare units are far cheaper once a site already has packs.
Duty. A tool used occasionally and a tool used all day are different products at different prices. Buying light tools for heavy duty costs more over a project than buying correctly once.
Consumables. Drill bits, blades, discs and abrasives are the running cost, and running out of them stops work. Order them with the tools and in realistic quantities.
Electrical supply. Confirm the site voltage and frequency for corded tools, and whether reduced-voltage tools are required by the project's safety rules.
Safety. Guards, side handles and anti-restart protection are part of the tool, not accessories to be removed. Confirm the specification includes them.
Metric or imperial. GCC MEP work uses both. Confirm which the fasteners and fittings on your project actually use before ordering socket and spanner sets.
