Fire Fighting

What this category covers

The fire protection package for a building, from the portable equipment a person picks up to the fixed systems that operate on their own. Portable and wheeled extinguishers; hose reels and hose cabinets; hydrants, landing valves and hose equipment; sprinkler heads, guards and accessories; fire fighting valves and pipework; fire pumps and their accessories; alarm, detection and signalling devices; and emergency and safety signage.

Fire equipment is different from the rest of an MEP order in one important respect: what is acceptable is decided by the authority having jurisdiction, not by the buyer. Civil Defence requirements differ between GCC states and are periodically revised, and equipment must carry the certification the local authority accepts.

Common applications

Residential and commercial towers, hotels, hospitals and clinics, schools and universities, shopping centres and retail units, warehouses and logistics facilities, workshops and light industry, plant rooms and car parks, and labour accommodation.

What to settle before asking for a price

Which authority approves the work. Saudi Civil Defence, UAE Civil Defence and the other GCC authorities each maintain their own approval and listing requirements. Tell us the country and, where relevant, the emirate or municipality, so that what we quote can actually be signed off.

Extinguishing agent against the fire risk. Dry powder is broad-spectrum and messy; CO₂ suits electrical risk and leaves no residue; foam suits flammable liquids; wet chemical is the correct agent for cooking oil in a commercial kitchen. Water on an energised electrical fire or a cooking-oil fire is dangerous, not merely ineffective.

Sprinkler response and temperature rating. The bulb colour indicates the operating temperature, and it must suit the ambient at ceiling level — a plant room or a Gulf roof space is far hotter than an office, and a head rated for an office will operate spuriously there.

Pipework standard. Fire mains are usually specified in a defined steel schedule with listed grooved or threaded fittings. Confirm the standard before ordering, because unlisted fittings will fail inspection.

Pump duty and standby arrangement. A fire pump set is sized on the flow and pressure the hydraulic calculation requires, and normally includes a jockey pump to hold system pressure and a diesel or second electric pump for standby.

Maintenance and service life. Extinguishers need periodic inspection and refilling, and certification has an expiry. Ask about the service regime at the point of purchase, not after handover.

Industries we supply

Main and MEP contractors, fire protection specialists, facilities management, hospitality and healthcare operators, industrial and warehousing operators, and government and education estates.

Frequently asked questions

Which extinguisher type do I need?

It depends on the fire risk in the space. Dry powder covers a broad range and is the general-purpose choice; CO₂ is used where electrical equipment is at risk and no residue is acceptable; foam suits flammable liquids; wet chemical is specifically for cooking oils and fats in commercial kitchens. Tell us what is in the space and we will match the agent and the rating to it.

Does your fire equipment meet Civil Defence requirements?

Requirements differ by country and are revised periodically, so the honest answer is that it depends on the destination and the current rules there. Tell us the country and the approving authority for your project and we will confirm the certification position for the specific items before you order.

What does the colour of a sprinkler bulb mean?

It indicates the head's nominal operating temperature. The rating has to be chosen against the maximum ambient at ceiling level — a head suited to an air-conditioned office will operate spuriously in a plant room or an unconditioned roof space, and a head rated too high will respond too slowly.

Can you supply a complete fire pump set?

Yes. Send the flow and pressure from the hydraulic calculation and we will quote the set — main pump, jockey pump, standby arrangement, controller and accessories — as a package rather than as separate items.

Do you supply fire alarm and detection equipment as well?

Yes — detectors, call points, sounders and safety signage are in this category. For an addressable system, tell us the panel make and protocol, since devices are not interchangeable between systems.
