Choosing and specifying this item

Insulation is a duty rating, not a coating you can judge by eye, and it is the reason this driver exists as a separate line from the plain PH2 drivers beside it.

Treat the insulation as the specified feature

Before the tool is issued for any work on or near live parts, confirm the voltage rating marked on it, the test regime standing behind that marking, and whether your client or the authority accepts that regime on this project. Nothing about the alloy-steel shaft tells you what the insulation withstands — the shaft material is a mechanical property and the two are unrelated.

Why PH2, and 100 mm

PH2 is the cross size that meets most enclosure covers, gear plates and equipment panels where PH1 sits too loosely and cams out. The 100 mm blade reaches into a standard panel while still letting you push the tool square with body weight, which is what actually prevents cam-out.

Site discipline in Gulf conditions

Inspect the insulation before every use for nicks, cuts, and softening or crazing after a tool has spent a summer day in a vehicle. Insulated tools that fail inspection are withdrawn, not repaired or taped. Confirm whether your safe system of work also demands a hand barrier and a tool inspection record.

Frequently asked questions

Does an insulated driver mean we are allowed to work on live equipment?

No. The tool is one control among several, not an authorisation. Live working is governed by your permit system, risk assessment and competency rules, and the tool's marked voltage rating and test documentation must be confirmed as acceptable for that specific task first. Insulation protects against incidental contact; it does not make an energised panel safe to work in.

Why specify PH2 here rather than PH1?

PH2 fits the larger cross recesses used on enclosure covers, equipment panels and gear plates, where a PH1 tip would contact only the top of the recess, cam out under load and round the head. PH1 belongs on smaller machine screws — control gear terminals, instrument brackets. Check a sample of the screws you actually open before deciding which size to hold.

How should insulated screwdrivers be stored in Gulf conditions?

Out of direct sun and out of a closed vehicle where interior temperatures climb hard in summer, because heat ages the insulating material and softening or crazing is a withdrawal condition. Keep them in a dedicated roll or box rather than loose with chisels and files that can nick the insulation, and inspect the full length before each use.

What do we need to confirm before this tool is accepted on a project?

The marked voltage rating, the test standard the marking refers to and the manufacturer's supporting documentation, plus whether the specifier requires an approval that a particular authority recognises. Ask us for the documentation available for the item and check it against the project specification before ordering in quantity — that is the review that decides acceptance, not the appearance of the tool.
