Choosing and specifying this item

Match the element to the vessel, not to the old label

Interchangeability is governed by three things: the outside diameter and length of the element, the bore of the central permeate tube, and the position of the brine seal. The trade codes element geometry as a four-digit figure — the first pair being nominal diameter in inches, the second the length — so measure the element you are pulling out rather than trusting a faded print on the wrap. Confirm Size against the pressure vessel bore and the end-cap set already in the housing.

Feed water decides the chemistry

Brackish-water, low-energy and seawater elements share the same envelope but behave nothing alike. Have a current feed analysis to hand — TDS, chloride, silica, hardness, SDI and design temperature. Gulf groundwater runs warm and is often silica- and sulphate-loaded; warmer feed raises flux and lowers rejection, so a capacity quoted at standard test conditions is not what you will see in Riyadh in July. Capacity and Operating Pressure both need confirming against your pump curve and the vessel rating.

Ask before you order

Membrane Material governs chlorine tolerance and the cleaning pH window — request it, with Brand, so the carbon pre-treatment and any CIP protocol stay valid.

Frequently asked questions

How do I identify the correct membrane size for our existing system?

Pull the old element and measure it: outside diameter, overall length, and the bore of the central permeate tube. Note where the brine seal groove sits and whether the vessel uses interconnectors or a single end adapter. Cross-check against the pressure vessel or housing model plate. Size is not held in this listing, so those measured dimensions are what allow the right element to be matched at enquiry stage.

Our feed is chlorinated municipal water. Does that change the selection?

It affects pre-treatment more than the element choice. Thin-film composite polyamide membranes tolerate very little free chlorine and degrade permanently once it breaks through, so an adequately sized carbon stage or chemical dechlorination has to be in service and monitored. Because Membrane Material is not recorded here, confirm it before you finalise the carbon design, and tell us the feed source and residual chlorine level with your enquiry.

Why does actual permeate output differ from a published membrane rating?

Published flow figures are quoted at standard test conditions: a defined feed concentration, pressure, temperature, pH and recovery. Real Gulf conditions rarely match them. Warmer feed increases flux but lowers salt rejection, while higher TDS, fouling and reduced net driving pressure cut output. Design against your own water analysis and worst-case temperature, and confirm Operating Pressure against the pump and vessel rather than a test-condition headline.

What should I send with a quotation request?

The pressure vessel or system make and model, measured element dimensions and permeate tube bore, elements per vessel, feed water source with a current analysis, target permeate quality and flow, design temperature and available feed pressure. State any project specification or approval regime the element must be submitted against, so the required documentation can be confirmed before the quotation is issued.
