Choosing and specifying this item
A change-out kit is bought on its interfaces
A change-out kit succeeds or fails on how it mates with the machine already on the wall: cartridge length and end style, housing thread, quick-change bayonet versus a threaded sump, stage count, and the membrane end-cap arrangement. Settle Compatible System first — the unit's make, model and number of stages. A clear photograph of the manifold head usually resolves it faster than a model plate that has rubbed off in a plant room.
Interrogate the contents
A membrane element is recorded here, though not its configuration, and the stages around it vary widely: sediment, a carbon block, a post-polishing cartridge, sometimes a remineralising stage. Filter Components and Brand are the attributes to request — ask for the stage-by-stage list and micron grading rather than assuming parity with your last kit. The carbon stage is what protects the membrane; if free chlorine breaks through, the membrane degrades and the economics of the change-out collapse.
Do not run everything on one calendar
Pre-filters and the membrane rarely expire together — tying them to a single date is the common site error. Log inlet and permeate TDS at every change, flush the new membrane to drain before putting it into service, and sanitise the housings while they are open.
