Choosing and specifying this item
Sizing the hold
Start from the leaf, not the opening. Record the door's mass, leaf width and the power size of the closer fitted to it, because those three together decide the holding force you need to ask for: an under-specified magnet lets go the first time someone leans on the leaf or corridor pressure builds, while an over-specified one overloads the fixings on a light partition.
Supply and release path
Settle the operating voltage against what the alarm installation can actually deliver — a monitored auxiliary output, a dedicated power supply unit, or a local mains-derived feed (GCC single-phase distribution is 220-240 V). Ask for the current draw per device before you total a circuit; several holders sharing one output is where the supply budget usually breaks. Confirm how the release signal is interfaced and proven at commissioning.
Fixing and site conditions
Mounting — wall or floor, surface or recessed, and the standoff needed to bridge leaf to substrate — is best dimensioned once the door hangs. Ask for a swivelling armature where the leaf may sit out of true. Keep the pole face clean: dust and coastal salt film are the usual reason a holder quietly loses grip. Confirm that the authority having jurisdiction accepts hold-open on that door.
