Choosing and specifying this item

The nozzle sets the duty

A decorative set is selected from the water effect, not from a flow figure in the abstract. Each nozzle type — bell, single jet, aerating or cascade — has its own flow and pressure requirement and its own tolerance for a varying supply. Fix the effect and the intended plume height first, then request Flow Rate and Head against that nozzle, together with Power, Voltage and the Solar Input the unit expects.

Panel siting and plume behaviour

Direct-coupled units follow the sun: the display rises and falls with irradiance and stops in shade. Some clients accept that; others expect a constant effect, which needs buffering. Site the panel where landscaping will not shade it during the hours the feature is meant to run, and where it does not become the visual focus of the space itself.

Gulf conditions

Summer evaporation drops basin level quickly, so a low-level cut-out and a make-up arrangement belong in the design rather than the maintenance routine. Wind carries a tall plume clear of a small basin and stains the surround, so keep plume height in proportion. Screen the intake against dust and leaf debris, and confirm the wetted materials suit any water treatment dosed into the feature.

Frequently asked questions

Will the fountain run at night?

Not on a directly coupled panel — the display works while there is sun on the array and stops when there is not. Evening operation needs storage: a battery arrangement charged during the day, sized for the run hours wanted after dark, or a mains-fed supply as an alternative. Decide this at design stage, because it changes the controller, the wiring and where equipment must be housed.

Why does the plume height keep changing?

Because the pump receives whatever power the array is producing at that moment, and a passing cloud, morning and late afternoon sun angles, dust on the modules or partial shading from a nearby tree all reduce it. The effect drops accordingly. If a steady display matters visually, specify buffered power or a regulated controller rather than a direct connection.

How big should the basin be?

Large enough to keep the pump submerged at the lowest expected level after evaporation and wind loss, to catch the plume in the wind conditions the site actually sees, and to hold sufficient volume that top-up is occasional rather than daily. In Gulf summer conditions a shallow, narrow basin will empty faster than expected, so allow for make-up and a low-level cut-out.

How do I stop it running dry?

Fit a low-level switch or probe in the basin wired to stop the pump, set above the pump's intake with enough margin that surface ripple does not trigger it repeatedly. Combine that with an automatic make-up feed where one is available. Running dry is the usual failure on decorative units because nobody notices a fountain that has quietly stopped delivering water.
