Choosing and specifying this item

Size backwards from demand

Every solar pumping decision starts from two site facts: the volume of water needed in the most demanding month, and the total head the water must be pushed against — vertical lift from the lowest water level to the discharge point, plus friction in the delivery line and any pressure required at the outlet. Ask for Flow Rate and Head as a single duty point; two separate numbers cannot be compared between offers.

The array is half the specification

Confirm Pump Power, Operating Voltage and the Solar Input window the controller will accept — array open-circuit voltage, operating voltage and the minimum panel wattage needed to start. Panels that suit one controller will over-volt or under-drive another. Size the array with margin: module output falls as cell temperature climbs through a Gulf summer, and dust soiling costs more again between cleaning visits.

Decide the family early

Whether the duty is better served submerged, surface-mounted or as a booster changes the whole offer, so state the source: open channel, tank, shallow well or borehole. If mains or generator backup is wanted, confirm 220-240 V single phase or 380-415 V three phase, and note that Saudi Arabia operates at 60 Hz.

Frequently asked questions

What do you need from us before a solar pumping system can be quoted?

The daily water volume required in the most demanding month, the total head — vertical lift from the lowest water level to the discharge point plus pipe friction and any pressure needed at the outlet — and the type and depth of the source with an indication of water quality. Also state whether panels, mounting structure, controller and cabling are in scope, and give the site location, since irradiance and mounting conditions differ across the GCC.

Do we need batteries with a solar pump?

Most agricultural and remote installations store water rather than electricity: the pump runs while the sun is up and a tank sized for the required days of autonomy covers the rest. Batteries are worth considering only where water must be delivered after dark, where steady pressure is required, or where storage cannot be elevated. Settle this before selection, because it changes both the controller and the array.

Can it run from mains or a generator when there is no sun?

Only if the controller is built for a hybrid or alternative input, so confirm that capability explicitly rather than assuming it. If it is wanted, state the backup supply available at site: 220-240 V single phase or 380-415 V three phase. Note also that Saudi Arabia operates at 60 Hz while the other GCC states run at 50 Hz, which matters for any AC motor and drive combination.

How much do heat and dust affect output?

Both reduce delivered energy. Module output falls as cell temperature rises, and Gulf ambient conditions keep cells hot right through the pumping day, while dust soiling accumulates between cleaning visits. Neither is a reason to avoid solar pumping, but the array should be sized with margin above the theoretical minimum and mounted so panels can actually be reached and washed. Treat cleaning access as part of the design, not an afterthought.
